Symbiont Services completed a project to create the Annual Statement of Accounts for the unitary authority between March and June 2008.

The project involved the planning of the close down process, management of the process, completion of key statements and the actual statement, creation of a new working paper system to assist with auditing and future completion and implementing various significant changes to the statement  in line with the requirements of the 2007/08 SORP, best practice and design. Various technical systems were created to ensure electronic working papers were consistent and accurate. The efficiencies gained from this system ensured that the completion and fine tuning of the final statement could be completed in the minimum of time.

The statement was prepared on time, a first for the authority in recent times, and was subject to consultation with the District Auditor and members of the Council prior to approval at the special council meeting at the end of June.
 
The completion of the statement on time will assist the authority in improving it’s Use of Resources score as determined by the Audit Commission.
